Synthetic Engine Oils Provide Enhanced Fuel Economy and Maintenance Savings
With the need to gain efficiency and to maximize fuel economy being top of mind for drivers, there are a number of simple things you can do to help your truck to operate at its best. This includes regularly changing air and fuel filters, having tires inflated to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer and making sure your coolant is at the correct concentration will all help with maintaining fuel economy.
It is also important to use low viscosity synthetic engine oils which can help increase efficiency in different operating temperatures. Synthetic oils offer increased temperature performance or what is referred to as Viscosity Index (VI), making them better able to operate at high and low temperatures. Oils thicken at low temperatures and become thinner at high temperatures. Full synthetic and synthetic blend oils are made with base oils that have a higher VI, meaning that they are more temperature stable with less dramatic viscosity changes as operating temperatures vary.
This results in an oil that has improved performance at both ends of the operating temperature range. The improved cold temperature and volatility performance allow for synthetic blend oils to be offered at lower viscosities, such as 10W-30 and 5W-30. Full synthetic oils are suitable for a wider range of temperatures, such as 5W-40 or 0W-40 for extreme cold. Shell Rotella synthetic blend and full synthetic engine oils have better low temperature pumpability throughout an engine compared to conventional. This means at lower temperatures, that they can circulate quickly through the engine and get to critical parts faster to prevent wear.
Lower viscosity full synthetic and synthetic blend heavy duty engine oils also provide better fuel economy compared to a 15W-40 conventional oil. In addition, both oils offer maintenance cost savings. A 10W-30 synthetic blend oil or a 5W-40 full synthetic can replace a 15W-40 conventional oil in most instances1.
Synthetic Blend Engine Oils
Synthetic blend products provide strong engine protection while offering an affordable price point. Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 Synthetic Blend offers great protection for longer engine life, extended oil drain capabilities and up to 2% enhanced fuel economy compared to a conventional 15W-40 heavy duty engine oil. Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 is an excellent choice for operators of vehicles in locations with a large high and low temperature range throughout the year. So whatever the season, you only need one oil to protect your engine in the viscosity grade recommended for use by most OEMs.
Full Synthetic Engine Oils
A high quality full synthetic engine oil like Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 Full Synthetic Diesel Oil offers extended drain intervals and better protects critical engine parts that can reduce maintenance costs and down time annually2. The oil offers enhanced fuel economy capability of up to 1.5%3 which can save money in fuel consumption, without compromising engine protection or durability. A lower viscosity synthetic engine oil such as Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 might seem like a bigger investment, but it pays dividends in the long run.
